John D. Gelles, O.D.

John Gelles, ODDr. John Gelles, O.D., F.I.A.O., F.C.L.S.A., F.S.L.S., is the director of the specialty contact lens division at The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute – Hersh Vision Group and The CLEI Center for Keratoconus.

He is a graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.  Through his education and experience, he has become uniquely skilled in the areas of irregular corneas and corneal disease, (specifically keratoconus, and ectasia, therapeutic and visually rehabilitative contact lenses and specialty contact lenses, dry eye and ocular surface disease, and the management of patients having LASIK and other refractive surgery.

His clinical work is dedicated exclusively to specialty contact lenses and surgical co-management for keratoconus and other corneal diseases, ocular surface disease, and post-surgical corneal conditions.

He works extensively with all varieties of contact lenses, scleral lenses, and prosthetic lenses, in particular.  this is part of the comprehensive management and co-management of keratoconus, severe dry eye and ocular surface disease, and irregular and post-surgical corneal conditions.

Dr. Gelles is an adjunct clinical instructor for State University of New York College of Optometry (SUNY) and New England College of Optometry (NECO).  He is an executive board member of the International Keratoconus Academy and an advisory board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute.

In addition, he is a clinical investigator for various keratoconus related clinical trials at CLEI and is a consultant for multiple technology and ophthalmic companies related to corneal disease and specialty contact lenses.

His expertise in this subspecialty has allowed him to achieve and continue achieving fellowship status with prestigious academies and societies.  He is a fellow of the Contact Lens Society of America, Fellow of the Scleral Lens Society, and a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology.

He is invited regularly to lecture both nationally and internationally on specialty contact lenses and keratoconus at both optometric and ophthalmologic meetings.

Dr. Gelles’ passion is to aid individuals affected by complex corneal and ocular surface diseases (such as keratoconus and severe dry eye) through the utilization of advanced contact lenses, treatments, and therapies in order to improve your quality of life.

This allows him to create lenses unique to you and your needs.  He is the only EyePrintPRO TM provider in New Jersey and was the first in the New York metropolitan region.
