LASIK & Crosslinking

** The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute is not currently enrolling patients for this clinical study.  Please check back for updates  **

We are pleased to announce a new research study for patients who are considering LASIK surgery for farsightedness or farsightedness with astigmatism. Farsightedness is a problem in the optics of the eye which requires you to wear reading glasses and often glasses for clear distance vision as well. The study is being conducted at The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute, P.A.
You may be eligible for this study if you are 18 years of age or older, need reading glasses and often glasses for clear vision as well, are considering LASIK surgery and are a good candidate for LASIK. The KXL LASIK hyperopia study is being conducted in several clinics in the U.S. The duration of the study is at least 24 months.  Many of the procedures for this study are routine procedures used for patients who undergo LASIK, and the actual procedure that you will have is our standard LASIK procedure.
During this study, in addition to LASIK, an ultraviolet-A illumination device, called the KXL system, in combination with Photrexa ZD™ (vitamin B2) eye drops will be used.  It is hoped that this one-time research procedure may strengthen the cornea after LASIK.  The goal of this research procedure is to strengthen the cornea and enhance stability of the result after LASIK.  This is a clinical study and results cannot be guaranteed.
You would need to pay for the LASIK procedure, but the corneal cross-linking research procedure and any study specific tests will be at no charge.
Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. Whether or not you participate in this study will have no effect on the relationship or the quality of care you receive with me or the staff at The Cornea and Laser Eye Institute, P.A.
If you are interested in learning more about this study, please contact my Study Coordinator,  BethAnn Furlong-Hibbert or Stacey Lazar, at or We will be glad to answer any questions you may have regarding this study.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from you.
